Launch: the eclectic barber

Welcome to the eclectic barber's new website + blog. It’s great to see you here! I thought my first post should really be an introduction including a bit of history on my background + where my visions are heading for the future.

So going back to the start of my career.... I studied art + design at college, after I finished I had no real direction + wasn't sure on what path I wanted to follow. I knew I wanted a job in the creative industries but wasn't sure what. I took temporary jobs while I figured it out, then stumbled across barbering. It felt like a great fit for me, creative, friendly environment, flexible + the salon I found had a real focus on music too which was another passion of mine.

I worked for a modern, creative Mens barbers, I loved the atmosphere, the team, the relaxed environment + built up some great relationships with clients that grew along with me. I learnt a lot during my time there, working my way up from apprentice to brand manager then focussing on training.

I worked across multiple salons, met lots of people, got involved in photoshoots, training sessions, events + cut a lot of hair! I worked for the salon group for 15 years + built up a strong reputation within the industry.

During the later years of my career, my main focus as a manager started to move to training + I decided to move into a teaching role with a focus on youth rehabilitation. I really enjoyed this part of my role + after 15 years in the industry I felt like I had a lot to share. I gained my teaching qualification + then started working for an award winning barbering department within a college.

I love teaching, I feel like its given me a new direction in life + I am always picking up new skills everyday not just in barbering but in my own personal development and understanding of others. Having the chance to inspire young barbers into the world + help them grow their talent is so rewarding.

This brings me up to date, I am still teaching + running a range of barbering courses but felt that now was finally the time for me to have my own space that I could continue to cut my clients hair in + really build a bit of a passion project. The eclectic barber is built around all of the things that I love from a creative perspective. This is my space to create something new + something different.

There are so many versions of great barbers + shops out there but I felt there was a need to build something more unique, a 1:1 service that is private + chilled whilst still being focussed on creativity. I will be releasing a limited number of appointments a month + my blog will include all sorts of barber based topics + subjects that are close to my heart, things like playlists, music reviews, style tips, tv guides, mental health awareness, travel + food. Anything + everything I think you might be interested in.

This reflects in the name chosen for the brand the eclectic barber everything I am passionate about in one space deriving ideas, style, taste from a diverse range of sources. (Just like the saying eclectic taste).
